ZTE to Boost R&D Activity in Xian, China

Chinese telecommunications solution provider ZTE and the municipal government of Xian, Shaanxi Province, recently signed an agreement, whereby ZTE will invest more than six billion RMB (US$877.0 million; US$1=6.8 RMB) in an R&D and production complex in Xian, China Business News reported. ZTE Xian center is expected to concentrate on the development of 3.5G and 4G telecommunications products. The company declined to comment on the report, though.

To date, ZTE has 11 such centers throughout China, with locations in Tianjin, Xian, Shenzhen, Nanjing, Shanghai, Chengdu, and Sanya. Aside from the Xian center, ZTE's Nanjing center is also under expansion at present. It is expected that ZTE Nanjing R&D personnel will increase to around 20,000 upon the completion of expansion.
